Recipe Ingredients

  • Refrigerated crescent rolls (8-count), I used Pillsbury brand.
  • Pizza sauce
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Mini pepperoni slices
Creamy mozzarella cheese and pizza sauce with crescent rolls, mini pepperoni for easy snack or meal.

INGREDIENT NOTES:

  • Crescent Rolls: The 8-count tube is perfect. Each piece of dough makes one pizza bite.
  • Pizza Sauce: Use whatever you’ve got, jarred pizza sauce or marinara both work great.
  • Cheese: Pre-shredded mozzarella is easiest, but shred your own if you want.
  • Pepperoni: Mini ones are best, but you can totally chop up regular pepperoni.

How to make Pizza Bites step-by-step:

*Check out the quick visual guides below. For full instructions and ingredients, see the printable recipe card at the end.

Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a muffin tin with cooking spray. If you’re using a 12-cup pan, fill the empty cups halfway with water so everything bakes evenly.

Step 2: In a small bowl, mix pizza sauce with Parmesan cheese.

Step 3: Separate crescent roll dough into 8 triangles. Press each triangle into a muffin cup, stretching and pressing the dough up the sides to make a little cup shape.

Step 4: Spoon 1 tablespoon of the sauce mixture into each cup.

Step 5: Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the sauce.

Step 6: Top each cup with mini pepperoni slices.

Step 7: Bake for 12-15 minutes until the crescent roll dough is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 8: Let cool for 2-3 minutes before taking them out of the pan. Serve warm on a serving platter!

Pro Tip:

Don’t go crazy with the sauce or they’ll get soggy – one tablespoon is perfect. Make sure you really press that dough up the sides of the cups so they hold their shape. And if you’re only making 8 in a 12-cup pan, add water to those empty spots, it seriously helps with even baking.

Storage and Reheating:

Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.

Reheating: They’re best eaten within the first 2-3 days for optimal texture.

Freezing: Cookie dough balls can be frozen for up to 3 months. Bake straight from frozen, adding 1-2 extra minutes.

Additions & Substitutions

ADDITIONS:

  • Veggies: Throw in diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or olives.
  • Sausage: Swap the pepperoni for cooked crumbled sausage.
  • Italian Seasoning: Sprinkle some on top before baking for extra flavor.
  • Garlic: Mix a little garlic powder into the sauce.
  • Hot Dog: Chop up a hot dog and use it instead of pepperoni – kids go crazy for this!

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • Crescent Rolls: Pizza dough or biscuit dough work too.
  • Cheese: Try pizza blend, cheddar, or any Italian cheese mix.
  • Sauce: Alfredo or pesto would be amazing if you want something different.
  • Pepperoni: Use ham, bacon bits, or leave it out for plain cheese bites.

FAQs about this Pizza Bites Recipe:

Can I make these ahead? Yes! Put them together and stick them in the fridge for up to 4 hours before baking. Just add a minute or two to the bake time.

Why do I need to add water to the empty muffin cups? It helps the whole pan bake evenly so the ones you made don’t get overdone around the edges.

My dough shrunk down while baking. What did I do wrong? You’ve gotta really press that dough firmly up the sides and into the bottom. Stretch it a little as you press.

Can I use regular-sized pepperoni? Totally! Just cut them into smaller pieces.

What Can I Serve with these Pizza Puffs?

These are perfect on their own, but extra pizza sauce for dipping is always a hit. Or serve with a salad or veggies and ranch!
