I make this buffalo chicken dip recipe for every party, game day, and potluck because it’s so easy and everyone goes crazy for it. It’s become one of my favorite appetizers to bring anywhere. The combination of tangy buffalo sauce, cool ranch dressing, and gooey cheese is the best. This tangy appetizer tastes like buffalo wings in dip form, and it’s a simple recipe that uses simple ingredients you can grab at any grocery store!

The best part is you can throw this together in about 10 minutes and let the oven do the work. I usually use rotisserie chicken to make it even easier, but you can cook your chicken ahead of time using leftover chicken, boneless skinless chicken breast, or even canned chicken. This is one of those recipes you’ll make for your next party and every Sunday game day after, it’s that good! Perfect for pre-game coverage snacking!

What you’ll love about this Frank’s Red Hot Chicken Buffalo Dip:

  • ALWAYS A CROWD PLEASER – This dip disappears every single time.
  • EASY TO MAKE – Just combine ingredients, spread, bake, and serve!
  • PERFECT FOR PARTIES – Great for game day, tailgates, or any gathering.
  • CLASSIC BUFFALO FLAVOR – All the flavor of wings without the messy fingers!

Here’s the Deal:

Every recipe uses only 5 ingredients, no exceptions! We don’t count water, salt, or pepper because everyone has those.

Recipe Ingredients

You’ll need these ingredients to make buffalo chicken dip:

  • Cream cheese, softened
  • Cooked shredded chicken
  • Frank’s buffalo wing sauce
  • Shredded Cheddar cheese
  • Ranch dressing

INGREDIENT NOTES:

  • Cream Cheese: Make sure it’s softened to room temperature so it mixes smoothly.
  • Chicken: Rotisserie chicken is easiest. Leftover chicken, canned chicken, or cooked chicken breasts all work.
  • Frank’s Buffalo Sauce: This is the key! The original cayenne pepper sauce gives the authentic buffalo flavor. I love this stuff!
  • Ranch Dressing: Use your favorite brand. The creamy kind works best. Creamy salad dressings like ranch or blue cheese dressing are perfect for this.
  • Cheese Options: You can use cheddar, mozzarella cheese, or a combination. If you’re a fan of blue cheese, add blue cheese crumbles on top! We love adding feta cheese.

*Check out the quick visual guides below. For full instructions and ingredients, see the printable recipe card at the end.

Step 1: Heat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or 2-quart casserole (or use a heavy disposable foil pan for easy cleanup) with cooking spray.

Step 2: In large bowl, beat cream cheese with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and creamy. Add buffalo sauce and ranch dressing; beat until well combined. You can also place cream cheese in a microwave-safe dish and soften it in the microwave first if needed. Just be careful and do it on 20 seconds increments.

Step 3: Stir in shredded chicken and 1 cup of the Cheddar cheese until evenly mixed. Place mixture into baking dish. Sprinkle remaining 1 1/2 cups Cheddar cheese over top.

Step 4: Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until dip is hot and bubbly and cheese is melted. Garnish with sliced green onions as a garnish (optional).

Step 5: Serve hot with tortilla chips, celery sticks, crackers, baguette slices, or sliced bread.

PRO TIP:

Make sure your cream cheese is really softened before you start, it makes mixing so much easier and prevents lumps. If you want extra heat, add more buffalo sauce to taste. You can also broil the dip for the last 2-3 minutes to get the cheese on top extra bubbly and golden!

Slow Cooker Method: Want to use a crock pot? Here’s the slow cooker method: Combine ingredients in a small slow cooker (or shallow 1-quart slow cooker). Cook on low setting for 2-3 hours or high setting for 1-1.5 hours, stirring occasionally until the dip is hot and smooth. This method lets you heat dip and keep it warm during the party!

Microwave Directions: For a super quick version, use these microwave directions: Place the mixture (without the top layer of cheese) in a microwave-safe dish. Microwave on high for 3-4 minutes, stirring every minute. Add remaining cheese on top and microwave 1 more minute. Stir well and serve!

Storage and Reheating:

Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Reheating: Reheat in a 350°F oven for 15-20 minutes. Place pan in the oven until hot and bubbly, or microwave individual portions for 1-2 minutes.

Freezing: This dip freezes well! Cool completely, freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw the frozen dip in the fridge overnight and reheat.

Additions and Substitutions:

 ADDITIONS:

  • Blue Cheese: Add blue cheese on top before baking for that kick of flavor.
  • Bacon: Sprinkle cooked bacon bits on top for extra richness.
  • Extra Veggies: Mix in diced celery for crunch.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • Dressing: Use blue cheese dressing or sour cream instead of ranch.
  • Cheese: Monterey Jack or a Mexican blend work great too.
  • Hot Sauce: Other buffalo sauces work, but Frank’s RedHot sauce gives the best authentic flavor.
  • Chicken: Turkey works if you have leftover turkey.

FAQs about Franks Buffalo Chix Dip:

Can I make this in a Crock pot? Sure!

Why is my dip watery? Make sure your chicken is well-drained and not too wet. Also, let the dip cool for a few minutes after baking, it will thicken up as the cheese sets.

Can I make this ahead? Absolutely! Assemble the dip with the remaining ingredients, cover, and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking. Add 5-10 minutes to the baking time if it’s cold from the fridge. You can also prep the rest of the ingredients in advance.

How spicy is this dip? It has a nice buffalo wing heat but isn’t overwhelming. If you want it milder, use less buffalo sauce. For more heat, add extra!

What Can I Serve with Franks Chicken Wing Dip?

Serve this Buffalo Chicken Dip with Franks Red Hot with tortilla chips, celery sticks, carrot sticks, crackers, or pita chips all work great! Celery is traditional and helps cool down the heat.
